After decades of climbing the corporate ladder, Sam Lewis and Andrew Nicoll knew that it was time for a change. Enter Squeeze, a much-needed re-imagination of massage experiences from founders of the beloved blowout brand (with several, locally owned locations, no less) DryBar. And while the pair never expected to go from finance to the fine art of massage, they jumped at the opportunity to bring the franchise to Scottsdale.

At Squeeze, everything is simple and in-app. It’s the ideal indulgent atmosphere for offering guests complete control over all aspects of their experience, from pressure to payment.

Recently, we chatted with one half of the entrepreneurial duo about the key to cultivating a great company culture, their fresh approach to massage therapy, and the curated experience guests can expect from Squeeze.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: Thanks for sitting down with us Sam! First things first, can you tell us a bit about yourself and your journey to teaming up with Andrew as the owners of a Squeeze franchise in Scottsdale?
Sam Lewis:
We actually met about ten years ago while working in the finance world when Andrew was interning for me. After becoming friends, and eventually neighbors, we recognized a shared dream of starting our own business. From there, we explored a multitude of options to make that dream a reality. Having never started our own company, we were attracted to the established business model and support that comes along with franchising. During our search, we heard Brittany Driscoll, Squeeze co-founder & CEO, on an episode of the Franchise Euphoria podcast and her passion for creating a positive company culture really caught our attention.

Being in the corporate world, we had seen our fair share of bad work cultures in which people felt stuck and didn't enjoy their work. Our goal was to create a work environment where employees felt like they were heard and treated well. When Brittany spoke about the brand’s values and culture, it really intrigued us. From that moment, it was “love at first listen," and the rest is history.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: That's quite the shift. What was it about entrepreneurship that appealed to you?
Sam Lewis:
Andrew and I each have had our share of corporate experience and seen the highs and lows of different management styles. What really excited us about entrepreneurship, and Squeeze in particular, was the opportunity to be a part of something that was impacting lives for the better. Massage therapists have dedicated their careers to that notion, so it's important that they have a work environment that allows them to receive the same support in return. One of our core values is to "do what you love and let it love you back,” which is something we come back to on a daily basis.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: That’s amazing! Squeeze has a unique correlation with one of our other members, DryBar. Can you touch on the shared background?
Sam Lewis:
Squeeze was started by the founders of DryBar, of which there are several locally-owned, very successful franchises in the Valley. While the two companies aren't affiliated, our leadership team took many of the things they learned while building DryBar and applied them to the beautiful experience we now have at Squeeze.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: What inspired the creation of Squeeze?
Sam Lewis:
Like all good ideas, Squeeze was built out of personal necessity. Our founders always loved getting massages (who doesn't!?), but found themselves frustrated with the options out there — either mediocre discount establishments or overpriced spas. Not to mention hard-to-book appointments, awkward checkout counters, and massages that were never the right pressure. So, they built the brand and massage experience they longed for!

Photography by Juliana Lay Photography.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: And what about the name? It’s darling! Where did the idea for that come from?
Sam Lewis:
If you look at other names in the industry, they're all so expected and similar to each other. We really wanted to come up with something different that would make people smile. Squeeze is a fun, lighthearted name that offers up tons of marketing opportunities and plays on words (e.g. Main Squeeze, Squeeze the Ones You Love, etc…)

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: Your tagline is “A Way Better Massage Experience.” How would you say Squeeze is different from other massage experiences?
Sam Lewis:
Well first of all, booking is absolutely stress-free. Guests can book, pay, set personalized preferences, tip, rate, and review all on our app. So after your massage, you can just float on out. We also don’t charge for extras. Each massage includes the guests choice of deep tissue, heat therapy, percussion therapy, and aromatherapy at no additional cost. The app also allows our therapists to save your massage preferences to your profile so your therapist knows exactly what you want, each and every time.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: Relaxation from start to finish is what we’re hearing. Speaking of clients, you have a unique name for them at Squeeze. What is it, and why?
Sam Lewis:
Guests! We want that feeling of family that our employees share to permeate through our hallways and naturally extend to those entering our doors to enjoy our relaxing and rejuvenating services. Our verbiage influences our thoughts and actions. Our guests feel that difference every time they visit.

Photography by Juliana Lay Photography.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: Now let’s talk specifics. So what exactly do you offer clients?
Sam Lewis:
Our service options are intentionally very simple. We offer two membership options based on time; our Mid Squeeze membership is a monthly 50-min massage and our Main Squeeze membership is a monthly 8-min massage. Our membership are month-to-month so you can pause or cancel at any time and come with many additional perks. Unused credits rollover and never expire and you can even gift them to friends or loved ones. Plus, for every membership sold Squeeze provides a day of canine support to a person with a disability through our partnership with Canine Companions.

Guests who aren't ready to become members can also "Pay-Per-Squeeze" for a Mid Squeeze (50-min massage) or Main Squeeze (80-min massage)

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: We know that customer experience is very important to Squeeze. What can a new customer expect from their first session?
Sam Lewis:
Every part of our experience was built with the guest in mind. We know that getting out for a massage is likely the best part of someone's day, so we take that to heart and make sure we can live up to it. From the moment you walk through the door you're greeting by our Maitre D who will check you in and show you to our lounge where we have a beautiful space to relax, enjoy refreshments and choose an aromatherapy scent to accompany your massage. Once inside your massage suite your massage therapist will review your personalized preferences and show you how to choose from our 6 different playlists. Everything else is done within the app so after their massage, a guest can figuratively float out!

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: When a Guest leaves your spa, how do you want them to feel?
Sam Lewis:
A massage is a relaxing, stress-free experience. We want to make sure that they can stay in that zen for as long as possible which is why we removed all of the other clunkiness you find at other massage experiences. Since payment is saved in our app, they don't need to wait in line to check-out or be upsold on a membership. They can walk out and hold on to all of the amazing feel-good benefits that come along with a massage.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: It’s the small things that make the experience. What unique features do you implement at Squeeze to make the customer service experience all the more enjoyable?
Sam Lewis:
One of our core values is "Little Things Are Big Things" so you are right! We have many of these little things throughout the experience but the main one is our app which allows guests to book, set personalized preference, pay, tip, rate and review all at their fingertips. This really puts the experience in the guests hands allows them to customize their massage to their liking. We save your personalized preferences to your accounts and review them before your massage so we know exactly what a guest wants, each and every time. Beyond the app, one of our most beloved and unique features in the shop is our "ready button." This is a small button at the bottom of the massage table that a guest can press once they're undressed, on the table and ready for their massage therapist to re-enter. The button turns on a light outside the massage suite letting the massage therapist know that the guest is ready. Goodbye awkward exchanges!

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: It sounds like you have thought of everything at Squeeze! And of course you have a fabulous team as a part of the equation. How do you hire and train your massage therapists?
Sam Lewis:
Andrew and I aren’t massage therapists ourselves, and we would never kid ourselves that we have the expertise to train our therapists on the technical side of things. Squeeze has an extensive training program built by massage therapists, and our Scottsdale location has two amazing Lead Therapists with decades of experience who support our team on a daily basis and conduct interviews. We strongly believe that there is no single way to give a massage. We see our therapists as the experts and allow them the freedom to make each massage their own, and we offer in-house education and CE stipends to encourage everyone on our team to keep learning and finding new inspiration in their massage practice.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: Before we slightly switch gears, what aspect of owning the Squeeze in Scottsdale do you find most fulfilling?
Sam Lewis:
Since opening our doors, we're continually hearing from guests that Squeeze is "so much better than where I used to get a massage" and that is what keeps us going. We truly believe that Squeeze is a way better massage experience and it is beyond fulfilling to know that that is resonating with the community.

We're also excited about the environment that we've been able to create for our team members. During our hiring process we love the reactions we get from candidates when we explain all of the amazing benefits that Squeeze offers. The fact that we don't charge extra for amenities like deep tissue and aromatherapy means that our Massage Therapists aren't required to upsell or meet any quotas which they're always so pleased to hear. Knowing that we're doing something different for both our guests and team members is a really special experience to be a part of.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: It is clear that community is important to you. Are you involved in any local organizations that give back to the community?
Sam Lewis:
At Squeeze we've partnered with Canine Companions, a non-profit dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities by providing expertly trained service dogs at no charge to the recipient.  For every membership sold at Squeeze we donate a day of canine support to a person with a disability.

Photography by Juliana Lay Photography.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: That must make what you do all the more meaningful. And as for Scottsdale, what do you love most about living in the Valley?
Sam Lewis:
I absolutely love food and golf and I can’t think of a better place to enjoy both! I can literally go from golfing at Papago Golf Club to eating at Cibo Pizzeria  in a matter of minutes. Also as a father of three, I can say this is an amazing place to raise a family.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: Finally, we’d love to know a few of your favorite local spots and experiences  distinctive to the Valley:
Sam Lewis:
When it comes to food, FnB is by far my favorite. Some of the best meals of my life have been at FNB. And when it comes to shopping, I have to mention Old Town Candy & Toys. My kids are always begging me to take them there! And when I’m not at Squeeze or spending time with my family, you can most likely find me golfing on any of the amazing courses we have in the area. But if I had to choose a local event that I look forward to, it would be Devour Phoenix. It’s the best place to see and try the amazing restaurants here in town.

Oh and I can’t forget to mention Cutino Hot Sauce. It's an incredible local brand and I always recommend any of the flavors for gifting. And of course it’s absolutely delicious!

Member Spotlight: Optimyze

Before he became one of the Valley’s definitive wellness experts, Optimyze’s Michael Roviello was on his own journey to healing. Years of conducting helicopter search and rescue missions around the globe with the U.S. Navy left Roviello with chronic cervical spine and neurological issues. And, despite exploring every conventional medical intervention available -- including pain medication and spinal surgery -- Roviello’s pain persisted.

That’s when his search led him to explore alternative practices, psychosomatic pain and medicine practices of the indigenous people of the Amazon jungle. There, he learned that his answers lay beyond Western medicine and was introduced to native practices designed to treat the whole person: mind, body, spirit, through natural, non-invasive methods that don't require pharmaceutical intervention.

Enter Roviello’s exploration of alternative healing, including the Wim Hof method, which started quite the local movement. Ultimately, this movement brought the two co-founders of Optimyze, Roviello and Jesse Morang, together in a common effort. And thus, Optimyze was born.

Like Roviello, co-founder of Optimyze, Jesse Moreng is passionate about helping others utilize natural modalities to achieve health and happiness. A mixed martial artists and professional fighter, Moreng attributes his commitment to the health and wellness industry to witnessing the mental and physical suffering of family, friends, and community members. Jesse’s work is dedicated to his wonderful, late brother — and others — suffering from mental and physical conditions that the modern health care system fails.

Through Optimyze, Roviello and Moreng bring the powerful synergy of alternative practices – including cold water, breathwork, contrast therapy, light therapy, PEMF, and infrared sauna use, among other modalities – to the Valley. Their goal? To educate, provide access to these therapies, grow the wellness community, and, well, help people optimize their health.

As we embrace the new year, we chatted with Roviello about health, wellness, and what exactly to expect from Optimyze

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: We understand that your respective health journeys connected you and Morang. Can you speak to what motivated you to take the entrepreneurial leap together?
Michael Roviello: We both started teaching the Wim Hof Method in the Phoenix area which created a local movement of sorts. After connecting with so many amazing people, hearing their stories, and witnessing their transformation, we decided to collaborate and create a space where we could bring the powerful synergy of cold water, breathwork, contrast therapy, sauna use, and other dynamic therapies to even more people in the community.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Before diving into the particulars of Optimyze, can you explain the Wim Hoff method to the uninitiated?
Michael Roviello: In simple terms, the Wim Hof Method combines breathing, cold-therapy, and commitment to help you gain control over your mind, breath, and body. This, we’ve seen, allows you to be overall happier, stronger, and healthier. It can also unlock a multitude of benefits such as a stronger immune system, better sleep quality, reduced stress levels, and increased energy.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: How did this method inform Optimyze — and what differentiates Optimyze from other health or wellness centers?
Michael Roviello: Optimyze is a unique wellness experience providing coaching through a circuit of multiple therapies to offer a wide range of benefits for mind and body. These therapies combine cutting edge, data-driven technology and natural methods to help people heal their mental, physical, and emotional stress and pain so that they can achieve – and maintain – optimal health. That’s what separates us from other conventional health centers.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: You mention a circuit of wellness therapies. Can you elaborate?
Michael Roviello: We have a wide array of therapies and services to choose from that are accompanied by guided support and coaching. In just one session, you can experience infrared sauna, compression therapy, meditation, restorative sleep technology, cold water and warm water hydrotherapy, red-light therapy, PEMF (pulsed electro-magentic field therapy), Biocharger therapy — just to name a few.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: What are the benefits?
Michael Roviello: The proven benefits of these therapies are extensive. The modalities we employ are show to decrease pain and inflammation, boost energy and the immune system, improve cardiovascular health, accelerate workout recovery, improve metabolism, enhance athletic performance, and so much more…

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: That’s astounding. Consider our interest majorly piqued! Beyond the extensive offerings and associated benefits, what can a client expect?
Michael Roviello: Great music, a positive supportive community, professional and caring coaches, and a place to learn, practice, and disconnect from the hustle of everyday busy life.

Photographed by Carrie Evans

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: You’ve had life-changing benefits from alternative modalities, and we would expect clients to have similarly remarkable experiences. Are there any, in particular, that stand out?
Michael Roviello: Absolutely. And while we’re in the business of optimizing client’s health, there’s one in particular that comes to mind. After suffering from inflammatory issues, the client was sent to us by her doctor after months of trying specialists and medications. We offered her a program of cold water and red light therapy, as well as sauna. She worked with us every day and her doctor closely monitored her biomarkers. Soon, she was free from her autoimmune obstacles, inflammation, pain, swelling and had increased energy. We are so proud to say that she is thriving now!

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: What a testament to the healing powers of Optimyze therapies! We understand that these therapies expose your body to stress. And while we typically think of stress with negative connotations, this client example proves otherwise. Can you elaborate?
Michael Roviello: It all comes down to the type of stress. Most people think we need less stress in life, but stress isn't going anywhere. You can't hide from it or avoid all stress in life, but what you can do is train your response. That’s what we do at Optimyze. How we react and adapt to stress makes all the difference.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Using the example of cold water therapy, how does this work in action?
Michael Roviello: We practice deliberate cold and heat exposure, because cold therapy and sauna trains our mind and body on how to react and adapt to stress. Humans are strong and resilient, but we have become too comfortable, which might just be the actual root cause of many of our issues.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: What are the health benefits of going between hot and cold temperatures?
Michael Roviello: This kind of therapy is powerful for improving the vascular system, circulation, immune response, inflammation, pain, and mental health. Hot and cold therapy have been around since the dawn of time and used by our ancestors on every continent. For some odd reason, we got away from the basic fundamentals of health and put all of our trust in conventional medical practices. Now we are remembering who we are, and the best part is that science is catching up to what our ancestors already knew… This stuff works.

Photographed by Carrie Evans

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: You’ve been known to mention the “Benjamin Button” effect. Can you touch on that?
Michael Roviello: After embracing these alternative health practices, people started to express that, while I was getting older, I looked more and more youthful. They wanted to know my secret to, like the movie Benjamin Button, how I was aging backwards. When people started to notice that I was looking more youthful even though I was physically aging, they wanted to know what my secret was to “aging backwards.” It appeared that all of these practices had significantly lowered my biological age, and according to the in-depth testing I have done, I was right! Cellular testing through Viome concluded that while my physical age is 43, my biological age is 32. Read more details from Michael here…

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Say no more. Where do we sign up for a membership? But, in all seriousness, you and Morang have brought the Valley something truly incredible. What, aside from the many benefits of Optimyze therapies, are the keys to success in your partnership?
Michael Roviello: At the basis of our partnership, we have a shared belief in our mission to educate the community on the science behind brain and body health and change their perspective on what methods they can use to be more proactive. When it comes to the business aspect, knowing our strengths and capabilities play a huge role in helping us delegate appropriately. And  of course good communication and trust are essential.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: What would you say to those who harbor reservations about their ability to embrace Optimyze modalities?
Michael Roviello: Jesse and I are just two random guys who decided to stop complaining about the health system and decided to do something about it. It’s had such a profound impact personally and at a community level — changing our perspectives, our lives, and, ultimately, the lives of others. Don’t miss this opportunity because of self-doubt!

Photographed by Carrie Evans

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: How would you describe the Valley’s reception to Optimyze?
Michael Roviello: There’s a great community of open-minded people. And I think, because of the Valley’s unique opportunities to connect with nature, Phoenix and Scottsdale are well-positioned to embrace our vision.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: In addition to Optimyze, we’d love to know a few of your favorite local spots and experiences so distinctive to the Valley!
Michael Roviello: My go-to restaurants are Chula Seafood, Persian Room, and Ingos Burgers. If I want to relax with a drink, I opt for kava at Kava bar  over cocktails. And when I’m not cold-plunging at Optimyze, you can probably find me hiking or training at Unfair Advantage Performance or Mountainside Fitness.

TSG Phoenix & Scottsdale: Community seems to be a recurring theme for you. What are some ways you are involved in the community and why are those causes important to you?
Michael Roviello: We support Foster 360, which helps young people practice techniques to better manage and react to stress. We see that teens in the foster system who have the ability to manage stress and learn about their health by taking on new habits and routines will have future success in all areas of life.

Meet Dr. Caitlin Morrison, a board-certified optometrist who founded the Scottsdale-based specialty contact lens practice In Focus Vision Solutions. Dr. Morrison is an Arizona native who studied optometry in Boston and New York before returning home to serve patients who haven’t had success with traditional contacts or eyeglasses. Her practice is designed to help those with vision conditions like ocular disfigurement, extreme light sensitivity, double vision, or persistent dry eye (often caused by living in the desert) to find the ability to see clearly with specialty contact lenses.

Dr. Morrison has a highly customized concierge approach to finding specialized vision solutions for her patients. An appointment with Dr. Morrison is consultative and extremely thorough — plus, she's a busy working mom with a baby on the way—so we were thrilled to score some time on her lunch break to get to know her better.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: How did you get started in optometry?
Dr. Morrison: I went to optometry school to fix my own problem! Like many of my patients, I had trouble with traditional contact lenses due to extremely dry eyes. I went from doctor to doctor and tried every type of contact lens available. I didn’t give up, and eventually found a solution with the scleral lens. It was such a relief for me to find an answer after searching for so long. I continued on with my residency program because I wanted to be an advocate for other people like me, who had been unable to find a solution but wanted to keep trying.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: What aspect of your work do you find the most fulfilling?
Dr. Morrison: Some of my patients experience vision difficulties that have severely limited their quality of life, often for decades. And almost every day, I get to be a part of that incredibly special moment when they see again. I feel lucky to be a part of that.

“Almost every day, I get to be a part of that incredibly special moment when they see again. I feel lucky to be a part of that.”

Dr. Morrison

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: How does the process of getting fitted for specialty contact lenses work at In Focus?
Dr. Morrison: The entire process is customized. We spend about three to five appointments together making and refining the lens to create the most comfortable, effective solution. Even with the latest technology, I like to take my time with each patient to evaluate how their brain and eyes will adapt to their specialized lens. Patients will have these lenses for life, so it’s essential to get them just right. Then, we check in every year to make any necessary adjustments.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: Do you have any eye health tips for our readers specific to living in the drier desert climate?
Dr. Morrison: My patients are always surprised when I share that the easiest way to find relief from dry eyes is not some special medical eye drop but a wet compress. Eighty percent of dry eye is due to a lack of oil in eyelid glands, so using a wet washcloth over closed eyelids for 5 minutes twice a day is effective. However, if dry eyes are getting in the way of wearing contact lenses, a scleral lens might be the answer.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: Speaking of our unique environment, can you share what it’s been like returning to Arizona after so much time away? What brought you back?
Dr. Morrison: I’m so happy to be back in my hometown after almost ten years. It’s a special place, and I love the way our year-round sunshine can make you feel. From a business perspective, it’s been really encouraging, as there’s a palpable community-feel amongst small business owners. It keeps me inspired and motivated!

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: What are some of your favorite local spots here in the Valley?
Dr. Morrison: Postino is an all-time favorite for dining. For shopping, Regency Modern is my go-to spot for gifts, especially chic candles you can’t find anywhere else. I also love to stop by Zoolikins, especially since I have a baby at home and another on the way. My husband and I love to play golf, and when we can we’ll do a twilight golf run at The Biltmore. I usually spend my Saturday mornings at the Gilbert Farmers Market shopping for fruit and specialty treats.

If you or someone you know has struggled to find a vision solution through traditional contact lenses, you can rest easy now that Dr. Morrison is back in the Valley. She’s made it her life’s work to bring specialized, custom vision solutions to her patients and she won’t give up until you are seeing comfortably and clearly. Member Spotlight: Hydrate IV Bar

Integral to The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale’s mission is telling the stories behind the small businesses Scouted in each Volume. The story begins in print and continues online, after all. As you collect Volume 2, we are thrilled to continue our story-telling mission with Member Spotlights…

Meet Danielle Withycombe and Mary Butterfield, the Co-Founders behind Hydrate IV Bar, a wellness spa dedicated to keeping the Valley healthy and hydrated. After opening their first Arizona location in Arcadia, Danielle and Mary launched a Scottsdale location in short order. The demand for their health-boosting IV Therapy is high and their experience is unsurpassed.

Hydrate IV Bar eschews desert-chic vibes that defy the sterile aesthetic so common in the industry, and clients are met with equally warm - and deeply knowledgeable - staff. In short, it’s a place to unwind and invest in their health.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: Danielle and Mary, we are thrilled you’ve joined us for Volume 2. To kick off our chat, can you share what inspired you to take the entrepreneurial leap?
Danielle & Mary: Danielle started to toy with the idea pre-Covid. After teaching yoga in the Valley for 13 years, Danielle reached out to the Denver-based founder of Hydrate IV, Katie Wafer, about bringing the concept to Arizona. Then, Covid hit. Danielle and Mary connected through yoga and during a yoga private, Mary rolled over after savasana and said, “this sounds like a fun idea, and I want to be your partner! Let’s bring Hydrate to Arizona.” The rest of 2020 was spent in full-blown creation mode!

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: What has been the best part about bringing Hydrate to Arizona?
Danielle & Mary: The health and wellness industry is thriving here in Phoenix and Scottsdale. We love being a part of that growth and creating a little sanctuary for people to step out of the hustle and into Hydrate.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: Your presence in the Valley is expanding, and you recently opened a second location. Can you share more about the new Scottsdale location and what this means for Hydrate?
Danielle & Mary: Thank you, we are thrilled! It’s a beautiful, inviting space conveniently located to the Quarter’s shopping and dining options. Not only does this location introduce us to a whole new market, but it also allows us to connect with and bring wellness to more people.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: Let’s talk about wellness… What are the benefits of IV therapy?
Danielle & Mary: Intravenous (IV) Therapy bypasses the gastrointestinal tract enabling 100% absorption of the included vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. This method quickly and effectively hydrates your body, offering a more energized, healthy you!

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: What types of IV Therapy do you provide?
Danielle & Mary: From immunity to athletic recovery, anti-aging to fatigue, we pride ourselves on serving a variety of health and wellness needs - including preventative and NAD+ IV Therapies. We also can customize our IV Therapy and Injections to each client, whether they’re experiencing symptoms of a cold or over-indulgence.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: How often are IV Therapies recommended?
Danielle & Mary: Everyone is different and has unique needs, and factors like physical activity, nutrition, quality of sleep, and stress can all impact frequency. However, we’ve seen that consistency is key in experiencing the full-benefits of IV Therapy and have created membership options for those interested in incorporating IV Therapy into their wellness routines.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: What can clients expect from a Hydrate IV experience?
Danielle & Mary: From the moment you walk into the spa you’ll feel the Zen vibes. Our friendly and professional team will help you identify the right services for your needs and help you settle into our relaxing loungers and start your treatment. Treatments take about 45 minutes. While we have many clients who use the opportunity to read or take a nap, we have plenty who make friends with fellow members!

“The desert is a constant reminder to stay resilient.”

-Danielle Withycombe & Mary Butterfield

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: What is the best part of your work?
Danielle & Mary: The opportunity to work with an amazing group of women and meet some of the nicest people around. We truly love what we do at Hydrate IV Bar, and we believe that this positivity radiates throughout the space into our guest’s experiences.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: As we head into the hot summer months, do you have any tips to staying hydrated and healthy?
Danielle & Mary: When temps rise, our bodies are in a constant battle to stay hydrated. In addition to desert temps, we suffer from drinking a lot of filtered water, which is stripped of the salts and minerals that our bodies need to stay hydrated. Luckily, we specialize in hydration! Our hydration go-to starts with 1-liter saline with a selection of vitamins and “Cocktails” unique to Hydrate IV Bar. Come in and let us help you stay hydrated!

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: In addition to the need for Hydrate IV’s, how does the Valley influence you and your business?
Danielle & Mary: The desert is a constant reminder to stay resilient!

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: Let’s talk more about the Valley. Or, more specifically, your Valley. What are your favorite local spots and experiences?
Danielle & Mary: There are so many! From shopping at urbAna to dinner at The Jade Bar at The Sanctuary, visiting the Musical Instrument Museum to attending Barrett Jackson Car Show!

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: How do you give back to the community? Are there any local charities or organizations near and dear to your hearts?
Danielle & Mary: Again, there are so many philanthropic organizations doing important work in the Valley. To support them, we have a charity component built into our Katie Cocktail. $5 of every “Katie” goes to a cause we identify each quarter.

The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale: Finally, we’d like to end our chat by looking ahead. Is there anything on the radar for Hydrate IV Bar that our readers should know about?
Danielle & Mary: Yes! We’re planning our third location - stay tuned!

Whether you’re interested in a Shot Pass or Myers Cocktail, visit Hydrate IV Bar Scottsdale or Arcadia to relax, recharge, and refresh your routine. Just don’t forget to tell them Scout sent you!

Boasting over 60 combined years of experience, the husband wife duo, Dr. Diana Deidan and Dr. Gregg Monterosso are bringing big, beautiful smiles to the Valley.

The Scout Phoenix & Scottsdale: We are thrilled to welcome you to Volume 2 of The Scout Guide Phoenix & Scottsdale. To start, let’s chat about what inspired you both to pursue dentistry…
Phoenix Comprehensive Dental: We became dentists to provide the same kind of excellent care we received as patients long before we went to dental school. It's so rewarding to enhance the lives of our patients, empowering them to smile with confidence.

The Scout Phoenix & Scottsdale: Can you share a little bit about the journey of opening a practice in the Valley?
Phoenix Comprehensive Dental: In 2019, we moved to the Valley from New York City. While in NYC, we operated cosmetic practices favored by high-profile clients like actors, celebrities, and politicians. These types of clients demanded and required excellence, as they appeared in front of cameras regularly. Our move to the Valley was born from a desire for warmer climates and an eagerness to translate our cosmetic dentistry to new parts of our country.

The Scout Phoenix & Scottsdale: Phoenix Comprehensive Dentistry is a fabulous cosmetic practice. In what other areas do you specialize?
Phoenix Comprehensive Dental: Our practice includes all areas of dentistry. From dental implants to Invisalign, preventive care to restorative dentistry, Phoenix Comprehensive Dentistry is, well, a comprehensive dental practice. We also offer Botox and cosmetic facial fillers that enhance all of your facial and dental cosmetic needs.

The Scout Phoenix & Scottsdale: How would you best describe your approach to patient care?
Phoenix Comprehensive Dental: At Phoenix Comprehensive Dentistry, we strive to make the dental experience a comfortable and happy one. We are informed by the desire to treat our patients as we would like to be treated. Our goal is to hear our patients tell us that coming to our office is the best dental experience that they have ever had.

The Scout Phoenix & Scottsdale: Can you share some advice for those looking for a cosmetic or restorative dentist? What should they look for in a provider?
Phoenix Comprehensive Dental: We would encourage clients to consider the following: Am I going to be treated differently than I have ever been treated before? Is my provider going to listen to me and my concerns? So many have negative dental experiences and it’s our priority to ensure our patients only have positive experiences. Because of this common experience, we prioritize patient-doctor communication.

“Our goal is to hear our patients tell us that coming to our office is the best dental experience that they have ever had.”

The Scout Phoenix & Scottsdale: It’s clear that our community is lucky to have a resource such as Phoenix Comprehensive Dental. Can you share what you love about living and working in the Valley.
Phoenix Comprehensive Dental: We love living so close to our office. In New York, we would commute into the City by train. And as much as we loved the City, it made life very challenging. We love living so close, as it allows us to see patients all day and get home quickly to home our 12 year old.

The Scout Phoenix & Scottsdale: We’re so thrilled to welcome you two! Do you have any local favorites?
Phoenix Comprehensive Dental: Absolutely! We love eating Tarbell’s and Buck & Rider, playing golf at Phoenix Country Club, and hiking Camelback and Piestewa Peak!

The Scout Phoenix & Scottsdale: Finally, we always love to ask our Members about the organizations near and dear to their hearts. Can you share yours?
Phoenix Comprehensive Dental: We love supporting the Phoenix Heart Ball and ASPCA

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: BARRE3 SCOTTSDALE

barre3 Scottsdale

barre3 Scottsdale is a full-body functional workout studio combining strength conditioning, cardio, and mindfulness. In terms of movement, think of the fundamentals of ballet, the strengthening of pilates, and the stretching of yoga.

The heart-pumping classes, encouraging instructors, and the inspiring community at barre3 Scottsdale help you to achieve physical results in your personal fitness journey. However, it is the emphasis they place on intentionally shifting the perspective of how your workouts make you look, to how they make you feel, that makes this special studio a beloved space to many in the Valley.

Whether you take a class in-studio, through live stream, or at one of their outdoor events, a barre3 workout is sure to leave you feeling stronger and more confident. Like the small and intensely focused exercises you do in a barre3 workout, this intention shift taps into the transformative potential of engagement at a deeper level, by putting mindfulness into movement.

We are thrilled to introduce you to barre 3 Scottsdale studio owner, Karie Johnson, who along with her team of instructors, is helping redefine what success in fitness means.
